Lichess Redesign

A desktop redesign of lichess.org, from ux research to a working prototype.

Role

Desktop research, ux research, ui design, design system, logo and frontend.

Stack

Figma, next.js, react, typescript, tailwind, motion.

Overview

Lichess is a free, open-source chess platform. This redesign of its desktop experience was my final project for the ux/ui design diploma at the universidad tecnológica nacional (utn): a university brief, not client work.

I started with desktop research and exploratory surveys, then worked through four validated personas, a nielsen heuristic audit, card sorting and tree testing, journey maps and a validated sitemap. From there I designed a high-fidelity design system in figma and built a site in next.js that presents the whole process. The faculty graded it "excelente", and it is the project my ux/ui certification was awarded on.
